Honor of Kings Gaming Spectacular, Wuhan, 26 November 2023

It was a complete surprise to be invited to conduct the opening moments of the Honor of Kings (王者荣耀, Wángzhě Róngyào) gaming event in Chengdu on November 26, but a very nice one! Honor of Kings is one of the of the most popular online games in the world, with over 100 million daily players, so this was a spectacular event, with all preparations shrouded in mystery (strictly no phones in rehearsals); even the opening visuals were held back until the actual performance. I’ve never participated in anything so massive before: there must have been easily 5,000 people just working on the staging alone. An absolute pleasure to work with three fantastic Chinese instrumentalists as well as with the local orchestra.
